Weather of Woe

It’s not the cold
I hate about winter
nor the glitter of ice
or the slip of the road

It’s not the dry heat
of a roaring furnace
or the cracking lips
and bleeding fingernails

It’s not the darkness
of the early sunset
or the simple lack
of warming sun

It’s the reminder
of everyone I loved
who jumped or slipped
each winter before
