The Writer

IMG_20170314_160820Hayli M. Cox is an MA candidate at Northern Michigan University, studying writing and literature in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. She serves as an associate nonfiction/hybrid editor for Passages North as well as the event coordinator and founding member of a local volunteer organization, Pay It Forward. Her work has most recently been published in The Gateway Review (3rd Place Summer Writing Contest), Open Palm Print, and Hippocampus Magazine, with essays forthcoming in Paper Darts and Diagram. She prefers writing domestic fabulism and creative nonfiction/hybrid formats involving lots of research, but she uses this blog to dabble in haiku and poetry (which she acknowledges she’s not great at). She often wishes she had a tail, wings, or scales and feels very connected to her evolutionary past. In her free time Hayli plays with Legos, walks her cat, and frequently indulges in Lake Superior night swims.

  2. As you’ve left such lovely comments on my blog it’s only fair that I reciprocate, particularly as you are clearly a very talented writer. I have enjoyed everything I’ve read and will definitely be back to read more, and hopefully leave better comments than this one.
Am I actually reviewing my own comments now?
    It appears I am.
But I really have enjoyed reading your work and when I redo my blogroll (which is happening soon) then you will be on it. And I only put ten people on that so hopefully that conveys the esteem in which I hold your writing better than this comment.
    Which is quite bad…

    • Why, thank you for reading my work, I’m quite glad you enjoyed it! For the record, I find your style refreshing and your comment a great start to my day as well! 🙂 I suspect your blog will keep me smiling in the mornings!

  6. All I needed to see was your title to know I’d be loving your blog. And thanks for liking my post. Your choice of words speaks to everything I am with the exception of the 30+ years I wasted on a boring job instead of expressing myself creatively like you do,

As for the publishing rejection, look at it this way: During my 6 years as an expat in Canada, I could only work for less than 3 due to the limited scope of my field. All the other time was spent writing, submitting queries and getting rejection letters. Since that was just before the blog scene took off, I almost gave up but have now returned to writing and thanks to the internet, I’ve learned that at least a few dozen people like what I write enough to follow my musings. So basically I’m a success in my own mind

And you are too. You’ve got tons more likes, readers and hits than me in what looks like the same amount of time so keep up the great work and please feel free to share the love of my blog from someone who was a “journalist” in his parallel life.

So I just wanted to stop by and say that you’re an inspiration to me! Thanks for the like on the haiku. Keep up your own work yourself, it looks awesome!

  18. Hayli, it’s delightful to read your “About” page. It sounds to me that you are what some might call a “Renaissance person.” : )

Thanks also for your follow of Heart of Life Poetry, which blog, you could say, represents my own approach to majoring in writing and minoring in biology. I appreciate your follow and hope you enjoy my poems for a long time to come.

I wish you great fulfillment in your studies, your blogging, and life in general!
